Bruised Fruit

Bruised Fruit

The perfect housewife.

A trauma survivor.

Let’s take control of this narrative.

Bruised Fruit is a double bill, presenting two women owning their space and their stories in a way that’s a bit queer, a bit dark and a bit funny.

Evelyn Parker is the perfect 1950s housewife who finds herself in court, divorcing her almighty ex.

Nadine is a current-day chef and single mother overcoming the trauma of her past, who finds herself at a strip club completely enthralled by a young woman in a sparkly two-piece and stilettos.

Who are these women? A wife. A mother. A servant. A victim. A piece of fruit. Tired of being defined by the titles given to them, Evelyn and Nadine expose their innermost secrets, desires and uncomfortable truths, to find the essence of the lives they want to lead.

Bruised Fruit embraces the sensual and sometimes violent world of the female psyche.

Let’s talk desire. Let’s talk damage. Let’s talk food.

Let’s take control.

Creative partnership and force to be reckoned with, Amy Garner Buchanan (LAMDA) and Hayley Ricketson (RADA), proudly present this extraordinary double bill of solo shows - written by the two women respectively, Ricketson directs Garner Buchanan in this preview of their latest work. This is their second collaboration, following their adaptation of The Last Samurai by Helen DeWitt which was developed on the Park Theatre’s Script Accelerator Programme. Titled We Never Get Off at Sloane Square, it will premiere in 2020.

Theatre Company Reviews:

"Ricketson has written two unique and complex characters with voices that are important to hear in a world that often reduces female desire to a one-dimensional sexuality." (Graceful, 2018)

"Garner Buchanan excels in this difficult role. Throughout the show, and especially in the end, she keeps the character believable." (Ten Ways on a Gun, 2016)
