Pearls Recommended

Pearls Recommended is a witty romantic drama about two characters' struggle between duty and desire as they navigate debutante culture in the American South. This one-act play follows the characters of Anne, a 21-year-old aspiring novelist, and Charlie, her best friend and heir to a finance dynasty, as they are getting ready for Anne's Debutante Ball.

This is a one-hour, real-time, two-hander exploring how these two characters are dealing with their shifting lives: Anne's conflicted feelings about her participation as a Deb and what that might mean for her future career, and Charlie's quietly simmering resistance to a life working under his dad's thumb. As they navigate their seemingly unchangeable fates, Charlie and Anne reach a crossroads that has us questioning: Does love help fix our problems, or just set us up for more pain when it all comes crashing down?
